Finding a painting

How do I acquire a painting?

Open Available Works, choose a painting, then select Acquire. You pay the artwork price in US dollars by card, US bank account or international wire transfer, and the studio then contacts you personally to arrange delivery and any framing.

What is the difference between Select Paintings and Available Works?

Select Paintings is the archive of the practice, including works that are no longer available. Available Works shows the paintings you can acquire now, with prices. A work leaves Available Works as soon as it is sold.

Can I see details or a video before deciding?

Open the photograph to enlarge it and use the arrows to explore the gallery. Ask the studio for additional detail photographs, a video walkthrough or a viewing so you can understand the surface, scale and condition.

Can you help me choose a work for my space?

Share a photograph of the room, the available wall measurements and what you are drawn to. We can discuss suitable works and scale. Any digital room visualization will be identified as an illustration; the artwork’s actual dimensions remain the reference.

Will the colors match my screen?

Screen settings and lighting can change how color appears. The gallery photographs are a useful reference; a detail photograph or video in natural light can help before you decide.

How are dimensions shown?

Measurements describe the artwork in centimeters, with approximate inches where provided. They do not automatically include a frame or shipping crate. Confirm the final framed dimensions and wall clearance with the studio before arranging installation.

Does an inquiry hold the painting for me?

No. An inquiry is a conversation rather than a reservation. A work is reserved for you when you complete checkout: at once for card payments, and for up to 7 days while a US bank payment or international wire transfer arrives. If you would like the studio to hold a work before you check out, ask first; any hold must be agreed in writing.

Price & secure payment

Why do I see both dollars and euros?

Prices are set in US dollars, and the dollar price is the amount Ratowsky LLC charges. The euro amount beside it is an approximate reference, converted daily at the European Central Bank rate. Your bank may apply its own exchange rate or fees.

What does the artwork price include?

The price covers the artwork. Framing, packing, insurance and delivery are additional and quoted separately for your approval. See the Purchase Terms.

Can I receive a complete estimate before purchasing?

Yes—use the inquiry option and share your destination, framing preference and any installation requirements. Requesting an estimate does not commit you to a purchase or reserve the work.

How will payment work?

At checkout you can pay by credit or debit card from any country (including Apple Pay and Google Pay where your device supports them), by US bank account, or by international wire transfer. Card and US bank account payments are taken securely by Stripe, and card details never pass through this website. Never send card details by email or in the inquiry form.

Can I arrange a different payment method?

Card, US bank account and international wire transfer are all available at checkout. For payment in stages or any other arrangement, contact the studio before paying. Any alternative must be confirmed in writing by the studio.

Can I pay by international wire transfer?

Yes, from any bank worldwide. Choose International wire transfer at checkout. Your order confirmation then shows the studio’s bank details and your order number to use as the payment reference. Please send the full amount in US dollars; any fees charged by your bank are yours.

The painting is reserved for you for up to 7 days while the transfer arrives, usually within 3 to 5 business days, and the studio confirms by email as soon as it is received.

Can I purchase inside ChatGPT?

Not at the moment. Works are acquired here on grasonratowsky.com. We will announce it if other ways to buy become available.

Framing & presentation

Is framing included?

Unless the individual listing explicitly states otherwise, framing is additional and optional. Installation photographs may show an example frame rather than what is included in the artwork price. We will confirm the exact presentation before fulfillment.

How do I choose a frame?

After purchase, the studio can discuss the work’s materials, your space and the presentation you prefer. We work with our framer in New York, or with a trusted framer near your home. A separate proposal will identify the frame, materials, dimensions, price and lead time. You approve it before any additional charge or fabrication.

Can I use my own framer?

You may prefer to arrange framing locally. Discuss this with the studio so the delivery format and material-specific handling instructions are clear. The suitability of shipping a work rolled, stretched or framed must be assessed for that individual painting.

Are the two panels of a diptych sold together?

A diptych is presented as one artwork made of two panels unless the listing explicitly states otherwise. Please ask the studio to confirm the complete set, individual panel dimensions and installation spacing before acquisition.

Delivery & installation

What happens after purchase?

You receive a receipt by email as soon as payment is confirmed, and the studio is notified at the same time. Someone from the studio then contacts you about framing, destination and delivery. You receive a separate quote to approve before any additional charge, and no dispatch date is promised until arrangements are confirmed.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, subject to the work, destination and available fine-art transport. Ask about your destination and the likely costs before purchasing, especially for oversized works or locations requiring specialist access.

What does delivery cost?

Delivery costs depend on the size of the painting and its destination. Paintings can often be rolled for shipping, which keeps the cost down. Delivery usually ranges from a few hundred to a few thousand dollars, depending on the size of the work. Ask the studio for an estimate for your destination.

How will my work be packed and insured?

The studio will propose packing appropriate to the materials and journey, together with the transport service and any insurance cover. Your proposal should identify what is covered and any limitations.

When will it arrive?

Timing depends on the artwork’s readiness, any framing, transport route and customs requirements. The studio will confirm the dispatch plan and estimated delivery window when the arrangements are agreed. Tell us about a deadline before you purchase.

What about customs, duties or import taxes?

These depend on the dispatch location and destination. The studio must explain any applicable import responsibilities and known costs before the order is finalized. Do not assume the artwork price or a shipping quote includes all local duties.

Can I collect from the studio?

Ask about collection before purchasing. The artwork’s location, packing, appointment and handover arrangements need to be confirmed; collection is not automatically available for every work.

Does delivery include hanging the work?

Installation is additional. We can help you hire an installer near you to hang the work perfectly in your home or office. Let us know about stairs, lifts, narrow doors, wall type and any access restrictions, so delivery and installation can be quoted accurately.

What if I decide not to accept the framing or shipping quote?

Framing is always optional. For delivery, you can collect the work from the studio by appointment, or use your own insured fine-art carrier and we will help arrange it.

Documentation, care & support

Will I receive a certificate of authenticity?

Each work comes with an invoice from Ratowsky LLC identifying the work. Ask the studio about a signed certificate of authenticity and provenance details for a specific work before you buy.

How should I care for my painting?

Request guidance for the actual materials and presentation of your work. Do not apply cleaning products or alter the surface yourself. The studio can discuss handling and placement, and refer specialist conservation questions to an appropriate professional.

What should I do if it arrives damaged?

Keep the packaging and photograph the packaging and artwork without risking further damage. Contact the studio within seven days of delivery with your order reference. The Purchase Terms explain what happens next.

Can I return or cancel an order?

Each work is unique, so all sales are final and we do not accept returns or cancellations. If a work is damaged in transit or does not arrive, the Purchase Terms explain how we put it right.

Can I commission a painting?

Contact the studio with your intended scale, space and timing. Availability and suitability are discussed individually. The brief, creative scope, price, payment stages and cancellation terms must be agreed before a commission begins.

Who can help with my acquisition?

Write to acquisitions@grasonratowsky.com about any acquisition, before or after you buy.
